Baptisms

The Rector, the Revd Andrew Doye, will always be pleased to speak with families and help prepare them for baptism and confirmation.

Parents usually choose a small number of godparents who will help the child grow up in the Christian faith and become part of the church in their own right. Godparents must be over the age of 18 and have been baptised. Others might be chosen as Mentors.

When the baptised child becomes a teenager or later as young adult, he or she may decide to ‘confirm’ their baptism by speaking for themselves at a special Confirmation service where a bishop is present.

Getting baptised and confirmed at Westbourne

We normally offer the opportunity for baptisms to be arranged as part of the main 9.30 am Sunday service.  Baptisms can also take place at Woodmancote Church.  In some circumstances it may be possible to arrange another time.  There is no fee for a standard baptism service.  Official baptism certificates carry a fee set by the Church of England.

Confirmation instruction is provided for adults and children.  Holy Communion is offered to baptised children aged seven and above who have completed a course of preparation.

To enquire about a baptism (‘christening’) at either of our churches please ring the Rector, the Revd Andrew Doye on (01243) 372867 or by email to westbournechirector@outlook.com
