In the Parish Hall
Most weeks of the year, during term-time, we offer Junior Church activities, starting in the Parish Hall across the road from the Church. These are for youngsters from around four to twelve years of age. Parents or carers can bring their child to the Hall before the 9.30 service gets underway and then come across themselves to join our act of worship in the Church or are welcome to stay with their children in the Hall if they wish. The group in the Hall will be overseen carefully by at least two leaders, who will engage the young people in activities which complement the themes of the day or of the season as are being celebrated in the Church. Often this involves art-work, acting or singing, and discussions appropriate to the children’s ages. Our children’s leaders have appropriate safeguarding certification and are committed to the wellbeing of all youngsters entrusted to their care on any Sunday.
At the start of 2024 we have 20 children on our Sunday School roll.
In our churches
At all services, and especially the 9.30 Sunday service, we invite any babies, children and young people to be a part of our worship. We open our doors to everybody on their own terms and are delighted to have you with us. At St John’s toys are available and a play area at the back of the church for the youngest. There are baby changing facilities at the rear of the church.
Young people form an important part of our choir.
On the second Sunday of each month the 9.30 service is intentionally more accessible, and a little shorter, with a lighter choice of hymns and songs, specially to cater to people across the age range of our Church. We enjoy other ‘all-age’ acts of worship on the fifth Sunday of the month, when that occurs, and at certain other special festivals: such as Mothering Sunday; Remembrance; and in the lead-up to Christmas. Young and old alike, all are welcome.
